Overview

Pigeon Mail is a startup I was brought in to help take from concept to early-stage validation. It aims to revive meaningful offline communication by selling beautifully curated postcard collections that come pre-stamped and trackable, so users can simply write, send, and reconnect with loved ones.

My Role

  • UX Design Consultant

  • Product strategy, UX design & brand identity

  • Worked on business modelling, customer validation, and go-to-market strategy through collaboration with local photographers

The Problem

In a fast-paced digital world, people crave more intentional and heartfelt ways to stay in touch. Yet, traditional letter writing feels inconvenient, finding stamps, envelopes, or even the motivation to sit down and write can be a barrier.

Solution

A frictionless, modern way to send real letters:

  • Curated postcard packs with thoughtful, writable designs

  • Prepaid postage + built-in tracking

  • Just write and drop in a postbox, we handle the rest

Design Approach

1. Research & Validation

  • Interviews with young adults, travelers, and nostalgic users

  • Identified core use cases: birthdays, moving away, relationships, travel, and mental health check-ins

  • Tested pricing and pack sizes through surveys and mock landing pages

2. Product & UX Design

  • Planned a web experience for tracking and follow-up content

3. Brand & Experience

  • Designed a warm, playful brand rooted in nostalgia and connection

  • Explored potential for seasonal or themed packs dedicated to specific photographers

Key Features

  • No need for stamps or envelopes – everything's prepaid

  • Each card is scannable/tracked via QR code

  • Eco-friendly packaging and sustainable printing

  • Optional web component to receive a notification when your postcard is delivered

Reflection

Pigeon Mail taught me how to blend UX thinking with physical product design as well as how to validate a business idea from the ground up. Ensuring convenience without losing the emotional value of handwritten letters.
